Thinking time!

I've got things to do.

Well, I continue to make corrections in my life path. Some are small, like not intending to start a full blog again, after failing so miserably at keeping it updated in the past. Some are large, like looking into new paths for my career.

I started by completely revamping my business.  I shifted the vision from development of web applications and web sites for businesses to developing for mobile platforms, and participating in the various app stores out there.

I took the jump into the Apple App Store craze the day it became public.  I deployed an app just a few months after we could join the App Store, and that tiny little app still gets attention from the public, even though I have neglected it. (More on that later)  So I thought I would give the Android platform a try.  I started with an HTC Aria, which is nice, but it’s no iPhone.  It has nothing to do with the device itself, but everything to do with the operating system.  I’m afraid I have my own biased opinions, and won’t go into it in this post, but I was not impressed.  I did like a number of features, as I’ve already written about, but it just didn’t compare to the comfort I call iOS.  So the Android phone is probably going to hit eBay soon, and Android OS will hit the bookshelf. This experience solidified my decision to develop for iOS.

Next up is web development.  Despite trying to drop that aspect of my business, business continues to come to me, and pays.  I’m still trying to sort out the long term future for the role that “web” will play in my business, but in an economic time like this, I can’t complain.  I also know deep down that as the market improves, demand in this area will only grow.  I am making two new technology choices in this area, which are Cappuccino, and JQuery Mobile (due out later this year).  PHP remains my server side language of choice.

On the App Store development front, I’ve got three projects in progress.  One is updating the existing UFO Battle, the other is an iPad version of UFO Battle, called UFO Battle: Armada, which will be a pretty big game for me to develop.  Workload remains in development as my third project, and that’s about all I can say about that!  App development is moving VERY slow simply because I have a “day job,” and a family.  It’s something I have done for “fun” up until I shifted my business focus. With the recent changes Apple made in paying developers, I’m much more motivated to spend time on these projects.  So have patience…I’m working on it!
